Nostalgia Overload of the Day: Walden Media, the children’s film production company behind The Chronicles of Narnia series, has purchased the right to adapt Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? for the big screen.
Initial reports suggested that the role of the red-hatted rogue would be played by Jennifer Lopez, but it seems now that Lopez will merely produce the film through her Nuyorican Productions company.
According to Deadline, Walden wants Carmen Sandiego to be “National Treasure meets The Thomas Crown Affair.” A brief synopsis follows:
When the ACME agency’s greatest detective Carmen Sandiego becomes the world’s greatest thief, it’s up to her former partner to follow her clues and track her down. Their cat and mouse game leads the partner to confront a greater mystery: is Carmen really a thief or a hero?
Though the project is underway, its realization is not entirely guaranteed: Disney, which optioned the educational franchise in the 90s, had developed a film version for Sandra Bullock, but that’s as far as it got.
